Three dead men sit at a table in a sealed compartment, with cards and an empty gun. Two have gunshot wounds; the third does not. There is only water beyond the portholes and the system that renews the air has stopped.
- Choose a narrator: they read the answer privately and hide it.

The answer
They were trapped in a submarine on the seabed. With the air running out, they played cards to allocate their last two bullets. Two shot themselves; the third died from lack of oxygen. The cards explain the choice, the empty gun the two wounds, and the failed air system the third death.
