The punch

At a party a man drinks freshly prepared punch, still full of ice cubes, and leaves. Guests who drink it later are poisoned; he is not. Nobody adds anything to the drink after he leaves.
- Choose a narrator: they read the answer privately and hide it.

The answer
The poison was frozen inside the cubes. The first man drank before they had melted enough to release it. Later the melted ice contaminated the punch. The substance was already in the bowl, but initially was not dissolved in the liquid he drank.
