The gift
Level 3 · Hard
A mortally wounded man hands the person who shot him a small, worthless metal ring. He dies seconds later. The other man remains beside him, looks at the ring and is killed by an explosion from the body on the ground.

The answer
The ring belonged to a grenade’s safety pin. The wounded man had removed it and released the lever, starting the fuse before handing over the pin. The grenade remained beside him; the “gift” announced an imminent explosion.
