The anonymous call

An anonymous phone call brings the police to John's house. The officers found him dead, with very serious injuries. In the apartment, however, there is nothing to suggest that he was injured there: no sign of a struggle and nothing out of place.

The answer
That night, a motorist had hit John. Panicking, the driver found John's address in his documents and his keys among his belongings. Instead of calling for help, he took John to John's apartment to make it seem that the incident had happened elsewhere. Later, feeling guilty but unwilling to confess, he called the police anonymously so that the body would be found.
