Francis collapses at work in front of his colleagues. Instead of helping, they continue what they are doing. By the time they realise their mistake, he is dead. Nobody wanted to hurt him.

The answer
He was an actor whose character was supposed to die of a heart attack in that scene. A real heart attack struck during the performance. His colleagues treated the collapse as part of the script and continued acting, calling for help too late.
