Before a match a boxer receives a photo on his phone of his daughter tied up at home, together with a message. During the match his opponent falls, but the referee has not finished counting. The boxer drops to the canvas too, although he could continue.

The answer
The message threatened his daughter if he won. Seeing his opponent down, he feared an imminent victory and tried to prevent it by pretending he could not continue. He did not know whether the kidnappers would keep their word; he was reacting to blackmail, not a secure agreement.
