A stranger in the car

A couple heading to hospital runs out of petrol. The man goes for help; his wife locks the doors and closes the windows. When he returns she is dead and someone he has never seen is in the car. It is still locked and nobody entered it.

The answer
His wife was in labour. While he was away she gave birth and died from haemorrhage. The new person was their newborn: nobody had entered from outside, because the child was born in the car. The father had never seen the child before; there was no intruder.
